The position is classified under CG27 with an annual salary range from $47,301.80 to $52,306.80.

Role Overview and Key Duties

The Payroll Clerk II is responsible for delivering thorough payroll services to all College of the North Atlantic campuses. The role involves processing bi-weekly payrolls, preparing necessary payroll reports, submitting statutory remittances, and responding to inquiries regarding payroll by providing accurate information and guidance.

  • Perform bi-weekly payroll processing and generate payroll-related reports.
  • Manage statutory and other mandatory remittances.
  • Address payroll queries by offering information and assistance.
  • Collaborate with employees and managers to identify and rectify payroll discrepancies or adjustments.
  • Prepare and issue Records of Employment and T4 slips as required.
  • Verify payroll data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legislation, collective agreements, institutional policies, and payroll procedures.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll details including banking, taxes, and deductions.
  • Calculate and review payroll adjustments for special cases such as leave without pay, partial pay periods, and workers’ compensation.
  • Determine eligibility and correctly process Labrador Northern Allowance and travel benefits.
  • Respond to Employment Insurance queries from Service Canada, submitting necessary payroll documents timely.
  • Conduct preliminary payroll calculations and audits to identify potential issues before final processing.
  • Coordinate with College divisions and external agencies to support payroll functions and perform monthly reconciliations.
  • Carry out clerical and administrative payroll tasks like filing, data entry, and record maintenance.
  • Undertake other duties that assist in the efficient functioning of payroll operations.

Candidate Requirements and Skills

Applicants should have a diploma in Business Administration or an equivalent qualification. Previous relevant experience in payroll processing or related payroll activities is required. Candidates must possess thorough knowledge of payroll administration procedures and best practices alongside familiarity with computerized payroll systems.

  • The role requires a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct when requested.
  • Verification of credentials, licenses, certifications, or professional memberships relevant to this position is mandatory.
  • This position is not eligible for telework; attendance on campus for daily work is expected, although occasional flexible arrangements may be considered.
