Partnerships Officer - Liaison

Role overview

This role supports the organization’s engagement with government and other key counterparts by offering technical guidance, keeping communication lines active, and helping move information efficiently. The position is tied to supporting Nigeria’s treaty-related obligations and strengthening the integration of explosive ordnance risk education and broader mine action activities. Some travel to north-east Nigeria may be required from time to time.

Key responsibilities

Working under the EORE specialist, the Partnerships Officer - Liaison will help coordinate liaison activities, technical exchanges, and administrative follow-through with public-sector and other stakeholders.

• Serve as the main contact for regular information exchange with federal ministries, education authorities, defence counterparts, and other national stakeholders.
• Coordinate with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, and other gender- and protection-focused counterparts at both federal and state level, in line with the organization’s GESI approach.
• Help advance the inclusion of explosive ordnance risk education in the national school curriculum by arranging technical discussions and sharing curriculum resources with education authorities.
• Ensure that EORE mainstreaming reflects the different needs and access barriers faced by girls, boys, out-of-school children, displaced children, and children with disabilities, consistent with relevant UN gender guidance and the organization’s GESI strategy.
• Track how mine action issues are being integrated across relevant sectors and coordinate internal follow-up where needed.
• Keep an updated directory of project stakeholders and key contacts, and circulate updates to national counterparts as needed.
• Support national counterparts with day-to-day technical inputs, suggestions, and data for preparing mandatory reports under applicable international mine action treaties and conventions.
• Maintain a task register and record agreed next steps so that work with government focal points remains organized and continuous.
• Contribute technical inputs and data for reports, standards, and standard operating procedures aligned with International Mine Action Standards.
• Assist with knowledge management and programme coordination, including tracking risks and issues related to government liaison work.
• Coordinate the scheduling, logistics, and recordkeeping for official meetings, technical working groups, and workshops involving leadership, government officials, and other stakeholders.
• Draft official letters, briefing notes, meeting minutes, and routine operational updates for internal and external government audiences.
• Ensure meetings, workshops, and events are planned with accessibility, mixed-gender participation, and participant safety in mind, and that correspondence follows DEI and PSEAH standards.

Education

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, along with 2 years of relevant experience. A master’s degree or equivalent is preferred.

Experience

The relevant background for this post includes progressive professional experience in liaison, public administration, programme support, or coordination. Prior work in Nigeria with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education or SUBEB is strongly preferred. Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including government bodies, UN entities, and national or international partners, is also desirable. Background applying gender-sensitive, inclusive, or protection-responsive approaches in liaison or stakeholder engagement is an advantage. Fluency in local languages spoken in Abuja and north-eastern Nigeria is also preferred.

Additional information

This role is based in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, and is a full-time onsite position. Travel to north-east Nigeria may be required occasionally.
