About the Role
The Marlay, part of the CareChoice Group of 15 nursing homes, is hiring a part-time Maintenance Assistant to work two days each week. The home is one of South Dublin’s well-regarded nursing homes and is maintained to a very high standard. This role suits someone practical, dependable and committed to keeping the premises safe, tidy and presentable for residents, visitors and staff.
Purpose of the Role
The position exists to support the upkeep of the nursing home’s buildings, grounds, equipment and facilities so that the environment remains safe, comfortable and well cared for at all times.
Responsibilities
- Handle general repairs, upkeep work and decorative tasks across the nursing home.
- Respond to routine maintenance jobs and attend to requests in a timely manner.
- Support the maintenance of the building, outdoor spaces, gardens and grounds.
- Perform small-scale plumbing, painting, carpentry and repair tasks within your capability.
- Help move and assemble furniture and equipment when needed.
- Spot and report building faults, defects and safety hazards.
- Assist with checks on plant equipment, heating, water systems and fire safety systems.
- Take part in weekly fire safety checks and keep emergency exits unobstructed.
- Record maintenance activity and update management on work completed.
- Keep tools, equipment and storage areas clean, secure and orderly.
- Work with outside contractors and service providers when necessary.
- Carry out all duties safely and in line with health and safety requirements.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures while working.
- Contribute to a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone on site.
- Complete any other reasonable tasks assigned by management.
Requirements
- Prior experience in maintenance, caretaking, facilities work or a similar hands-on role.
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing, painting, carpentry and general repair work.
- Sound understanding of health and safety practices.
- Ability to work on your own and manage priorities effectively.
- Strong communication and problem-solving ability.
- A positive, adaptable and proactive mindset.
- Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred but not essential.
