Role Overview

Sewickley Academy invites applications for a part-time ESL Teacher responsible for delivering personalized language education to students in the Lower and Senior Schools. The selected individual will handle a caseload of roughly 10 students, offering focused instruction to enhance English language skills and collaborating closely with classroom educators and families to facilitate student success.

Working Hours

This temporary position requires flexible availability during school hours, as the instructional schedule is aligned with an eight-day rotating timetable and varies according to student needs. The candidate will teach during different periods throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and instruct approximately 10 ESL learners across Lower and Senior Schools.
  • Conduct at least four ESL teaching sessions weekly, with a typical distribution of three in Senior School and one in Lower School.
  • Administer individual standardized assessments each trimester to monitor progress.
  • Utilize assessment results to design and adapt teaching strategies tailored to individual learners.
  • Provide instruction following the Academy's ESL curriculum, focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
  • Offer supplementary academic support to ESL students as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, sharing effective techniques for supporting multilingual students.
  • Maintain regular communication on student progress with families and guardians.
  • Coordinate with the Student Support team to identify and address specific instructional needs.
  • Assist with assessment proctoring duties in the Support Services department.
  • Engage in regular meetings with the Director of Student and Instructional Support to discuss student outcomes and requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related discipline is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Possession of ESL certification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in assessing and educating English language learners.
  • Ability to effectively engage students across diverse age groups and language proficiencies.
  • Strong collaborative skills for working with faculty, staff, families, and school leadership.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethical standards.
