Role Overview

This position involves supervising individuals convicted by the Circuit Court, assisting parolees or probationers in overcoming personal challenges, and encouraging positive behavioral changes that contribute to community safety. Duties include preparing offender background reports to support sentencing decisions and overseeing offenders placed under community supervision, such as those on probation or parole.

Responsibilities

• Manage caseloads that could include sex offenders, those under electronic monitoring (e.g., GPS), gender-specific groups, individuals with mental health disorders, participants in the Interstate Compact, and other special categories assigned by management.
• Serve in various capacities such as an embedded agent with law enforcement, an Institutional Parole Agent, or an Internet Crimes Against Children Agent.
• Adhere strictly to departmental policies, procedures, directives, and guiding principles to achieve correctional objectives.

Work Environment and Conditions

The role requires frequent unsupervised access and direct interaction with probationers or parolees and is designated as a drug and alcohol testing (DART) position. Some roles within Institutional Parole may involve unsupervised contact with inmates over half of work hours. The position demands considerable independent judgment given the significant impact on program operations.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in fields such as criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling, child development, sociology, school social work, administration in social work, educational psychology, family relations, human services, or theology.

Experience: For the P11 level, two years of professional experience with adult offenders comparable to designated parole/probation roles is required, including at least one year equivalent to the P10 level. Alternative pathways include a bachelor's degree in any major plus one year of Department of Corrections experience or progression through relevant correctional positions as detailed in official guidelines.

Compliance and Ethical Standards

Applicants with felony or misdemeanor convictions are disqualified until all sentencing, parole, or probation obligations are fulfilled. High ethical conduct aligning with state service standards is mandatory, including disclosure of conflicts of interest. New employees undergo comprehensive training tailored to their role's level of offender interaction.
