About The Role
Globe Life is seeking a Paralegal to join their life and accident insurance legal team located in McKinney, TX. This hybrid position involves working from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office Tuesday through Thursday. The Paralegal will provide extensive support in regulatory compliance, consumer complaint handling, litigation support, and corporate governance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle intake, tracking, and resolution of consumer complaints from state insurance departments, Better Business Bureau, legal representatives, and direct consumers.
- Prepare timely, regulation-compliant responses and monitor all complaint-related deadlines; collaborate with Customer Service, Claims, and other departments for escalated issues.
- Ensure thorough documentation, recording, and reporting of complaints and responses.
- Distribute legal documents appropriately to designated individuals or entities.
- Conduct legal research on insurance laws, regulations, case precedents, and guidelines using databases such as LexisNexis.
- Maintain and organize legal and corporate records both physically and digitally, adhering to document retention policies and standardized naming methods.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and materials, record and circulate minutes, and track follow-up actions.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, regulatory bodies, executives, and other stakeholders to facilitate information exchanges.
- Perform special projects and support attorneys and the legal department, adapting to urgent issues and changing priorities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Associate's degree with a Paralegal Certificate from an accredited program, or a Bachelor's degree in any discipline, or Associate's degree with at least 2 years experience in a related paralegal role in insurance or legal sectors.
- Between two to four years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary in law firms or corporate legal departments.
- Litigation expertise including discovery, documentation, case management, and trial preparation.
- Experienced with regulatory filings, interactions with state insurance departments, and handling consumer complaints or regulatory communications.
- Prior work in life, health, accident, or property/casualty insurance industries with knowledge of insurance regulations and compliance.
- Familiarity with insurance products, policies, riders, industry terms, and compliance processes across multiple states.
- Preferred experience in multi-state regulatory compliance tracking.
- Corporate governance skills including board meeting support and recordkeeping is advantageous.
- Proficient with legal research tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER and documentary software.
- Advanced abilities in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and experience with document and litigation management systems.
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the capacity to identify problems, draft legal documents, and suggest solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently, adjust to shifting priorities, meet critical deadlines, and maintain confidentiality when engaging with executives and external stakeholders.
- Previous in-house legal department experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Possession of a Paralegal Certificate is required; Notary license is a plus but not necessary.
