Painter

Overview

The Painter will operate under the supervision of the General Purpose (GP) Foreman to execute maintenance and preservation tasks aboard ships. These duties involve cleaning, blasting, spraying, hand painting, tool maintenance, and housekeeping, all performed with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and direct the painting crew while ensuring safety protocols are followed for all team members, visitors, and subcontractors.
• Perform shipboard maintenance activities including cleaning, surface preparation, blasting, and applying protective coatings.
• Maintain control of substances hazardous to health, comply with emergency response procedures, and participate in safety management activities.
• Manage material receiving, handling, and record-keeping according to safety data sheets (MSDS).
• Conduct confined space entries and manage waste disposal responsibly.
• Follow established standards related to corrosion protection and fabric maintenance onboard.

Prerequisites and Experience

• At least one year of hands-on experience in surface preparation, blasting, and coating application using relevant equipment such as compressors and blasters.
• For candidates seeking a lead painter role, a minimum of three years’ leadership experience supervising painting or blasting teams is necessary.
• Must meet the company's health standards for offshore work as specified in GEMS Instruction Health Requirements.
