Role Overview

Reporting directly to the VP of Event Operations, the Overlay Director will lead strategic planning and operational management of global Formula E racetrack overlays, temporary structures, and electrical infrastructure. This senior technical position ensures cohesive overlay and electrical system delivery across sporting, broadcast, commercial, and hospitality domains, guaranteeing events are delivered safely, within budget, and at the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead integrated overlay strategy, including master planning, CAD review, design, and feasibility assessments of all temporary overlays and electrical networks worldwide in partnership with FIA, track engineers, and local promoters.
• Establish and refine technical standards for event power, covering paddock electrical networks, broadcast systems, and EV charging infrastructure, fostering innovation toward sustainable energy use.
• Provide live event leadership, managing and guiding a specialized technical team, acting as chief technical authority at the Event Command Centre for urgent modifications and troubleshooting during race operations.
• Oversee commercial aspects, including managing multimillion-pound procurements, departmental infrastructure budgets, and international freight logistics while ensuring compliance with engineering standards, local environmental laws, UK CDM regulations, and international health and safety protocols.

Candidate Profile

• Strong engineering background with significant hands-on experience delivering large-scale international events.
• Analytical and decisive mindset; confident communicator comfortable challenging teams to maintain high standards and accountability.
• Expertise in compliance with UK CDM regulations and international construction safety standards; technical authority over critical power and venue builds under pressure.
• Excellent commercial and strategic insight combined with data analysis capabilities comparable to an engineering degree; adept at engaging with diverse stakeholders including regulatory authorities, promoters, technical partners, and executives.
• Willingness to travel extensively, attending 6 to 10 event locations annually plus additional site visits for race prospect evaluation.

Additional Information

This hybrid position requires presence in the London Hammersmith office three days weekly.
