Job description

Overview

BnM is seeking an Operations Technician to join their team in Edenderry, County Offaly, responsible for operating and monitoring electricity generating assets. The focus is on optimizing availability, efficiency, and commercial outcomes while upholding strict safety, environmental, and engineering standards on a shift basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee thermal generating assets to maximize availability, operational efficiency, and compliance with Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC) licensing as well as other business targets.
  • Enhance ancillary services revenues through timely plant status updates to the grid system operator, prevent ancillary service penalties, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a competent person under Edenderry Safety Rules, ensuring compliance with health and safety systems, maintaining environmental licence standards, managing site security and access, and leading first responses during emergencies.
  • Operate assets following System Operator guidelines and Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM) rules to optimize commercial performance.
  • Handle intake of deliveries, take material samples, manage their delivery to laboratories, assist in troubleshooting and logging faults on maintenance management systems, and support maintenance during outages or breakdowns.
  • Contribute actively to the Plant Business Management System implementation, participate in broader plant management, and support human resource development.
  • Maintain communication with asset owners, legal authorities, suppliers, contractors, and the electricity supply authority regarding maintenance outages and supply reliability.
  • Adhere and support all company health, safety, and welfare policies for employees and visitors alike.
  • Engage proactively in performance management to achieve individual and team goals.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of an electrical, mechanical, or automation craft qualification with experience or interest in power plant/process environments.
  • Prior experience is advantageous but not mandatory; training for the role will be provided.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect operational activities to strategic goals through effective two-way communication internally and externally.
  • Relevant professional certifications or subscriptions highlighting suitability for the position are desirable.
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, or automation systems is beneficial.
  • Experience in the electricity industry and knowledge of its policies and regulatory environment is a plus.
