Operations Manager - Shipping at Rosslare Port

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic Operations Manager to lead daily activities at Rosslare Port, one of Ireland’s key maritime gateways. This role calls for a proactive leader who thrives in fast-moving environments and is eager to ensure seamless port operations while managing a substantial team.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise all daily operational processes at Rosslare Port including vessel loading and unloading.
• Manage container transfers from ships to quay and arrange subsequent transportation.
• Coordinate cargo lashing and unlashing according to stowage and safety procedures.
• Create operational plans targeting high customer service standards, productivity, and throughput.
• Allocate labor, equipment, and resources effectively to meet operational demands.
• Lead and develop supervisors, team leaders, lashers, and other operational staff.
• Handle recruitment, training, workforce planning, and performance evaluations.
• Promote a culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and constant improvement.
• Maintain strong working relationships with employees, shipping lines, port authorities, contractors, and clients.
• Serve as the key operational point of contact for shipping lines and freight operators, ensuring high service levels.
• Participate in meetings with vessel operators and port authorities to coordinate operations.
• Resolve operational challenges efficiently with a customer-oriented approach.
• Manage budgets, oversee cost control, increase labor productivity, and equipment use.
• Identify and implement operational efficiency and cost-saving measures.
• Support commercial initiatives aimed at growth and client retention.

Required Skills and Experience

• At least five years of managerial experience within logistics, ports, shipping, transport, or warehousing operations.
• Expertise in container handling and logistics workflows.
• Proven ability to lead sizable teams in fast-paced environments.
• Strong leadership, planning, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Competency with Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.
• Valid full driving license and the right to work in Ireland.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in port, maritime, stevedoring, terminal, or vessel-related operations.
• Understanding of container lashing and securing protocols.
• Familiarity with shipping lines and port authority operations.
• Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement certifications.
• Health & Safety certification such as IOSH or NEBOSH.
• Relevant logistics licenses like CPC.
