Position Overview

Join His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service at HMP Isle of Wight as an Operational Support Grade (OSG), playing a vital role in the smooth daily operation of the prison. This role involves a combination of responsibilities including overseeing security measures at the entrance, handling deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring communications through phone calls and CCTV.

Key Duties

  • Support security and conduct search operations at the prison gate.
  • Manage the receipt and processing of deliveries efficiently.
  • Oversee visitor supervision protocols to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Monitor phone usage and surveillance via CCTV to maintain order.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds.
  • Undertake driving duties, requiring a valid UK driving license.

Candidate Profile

No formal qualifications are required, but strong communication skills and the ability to maintain composure under pressure are essential. The role is active and fast-paced, demanding good judgment, common sense, and a team-oriented attitude.

  • Requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Limited direct contact with prisoners, although occasional interaction may occur depending on the prison setting.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary of £29,432.
  • Starting annual leave of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service (pro-rated).
