Position Overview

Based in Ottawa, ON, this full-time role as an Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator involves supporting a highly regulated operational environment focused on safety, teamwork, and continuous enhancement. The role entails nurturing a proactive safety culture while ensuring adherence to occupational health and safety laws and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate workplace inspections, hazard evaluations, accident investigations, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments, oversee safety equipment recommendations, and assist with personal protective equipment compliance and inventory.
  • Revise and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure they meet current legislation and best practices.
  • Organize employee safety training, perform workplace audits, and contribute to ongoing occupational health and safety projects.
  • Generate reports, keep safety documentation, support Workplace Health and Safety Committee activities, and analyze safety data to identify improvement areas.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to offer expert safety guidance and assist with operational safety investigations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 2 to 4 years of progressive experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • College diploma or university degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Biology, or related fields.
  • Proven experience developing safety policies, procedures, reports, orientation programs, and coordinating safety training sessions.
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal occupational health and safety legislation, incident investigation, and risk assessment methods.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and experience in managing safety records and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in ergonomics, knowledge of ISO 45001 standards, and progress towards recognized OHS certification are advantageous.

  • Language requirements: Fluent English and intermediate French proficiency.
