Job description
About NHS Western Isles
NHS Western Isles is tasked with safeguarding and enhancing the health of its local population, providing a broad array of healthcare services including acute care, mental health, primary care, and community services. It actively collaborates with various stakeholders such as local residents, the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar authority, and third sector organizations to deliver joint services. Together with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, NHS Western Isles participates in an Integration Joint Board (IJB) to offer coordinated health and care services across the islands.
The Board's Role
The board ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-focused care while advancing the health and wellbeing of those in the Western Isles. It does so through strong governance, establishing strategic objectives, monitoring executive performance, managing acceptable risk levels, shaping organizational culture, and interacting with stakeholders regarding public funds and priorities. Non-executive members contribute fully to board activities, including its governance committees.

Two non-executive board member roles are open. Primarily, candidates residing in the Western Isles are sought. The first role requires significant insight into the social, cultural, and community framework of the Western Isles, while the second is a generalist position. Applicants for Role 1 will also be considered for Role 2 unless they specify otherwise.
