The Role

The Cleaning Operative supports the cleanliness of trains and stations across Transport for Wales cleaning operations by completing assigned tasks within the required timeframes.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain allocated areas on trains and in facilities by carrying out tasks such as damp wiping, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, restroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning, and cleaning luggage racks, while using supplied equipment and required PPE.
  • Keep station platforms and other specified areas tidy by emptying bins, removing graffiti, and, after suitable training, clearing pigeon droppings to help provide a clean and safe environment for customers and colleagues.
  • Refill consumables in designated areas, including soap and toilet rolls, to support a hygienic environment.
  • Perform more demanding cleaning duties when needed, including carpet cleaning, steam cleaning, and occasional jet washing of stations and facilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Prior experience in a cleaning position.
  • Confidence handling cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Awareness of how to manage cleaning chemicals safely.

Welsh Language Skills

Welsh language ability is not mandatory, but it would be a welcome advantage. Transport for Wales also supports applicants and employees who want to learn or strengthen their Welsh through online learning, classroom-based training, and funding for local community courses.

Equal Opportunities

Who We Are

Transport for Wales is focused on improving how Wales travels by promoting sustainable transport and creating an integrated multi-modal network known as the T Network. This makes travel easier across trains, buses, walking, wheeling, and cycling.

Next Steps

Further role details and application instructions are available in the attached job description. Transport for Wales is a Disability Confident Leader and encourages applicants to request any reasonable adjustments needed during recruitment or, if successful, in the role itself.
