About the Role

Al Jazeera English, part of Al Jazeera Media Network, is seeking an experienced News Editor to join its headquarters team in Doha, Qatar. The channel is a globally recognized 24-hour international news service known for people-centred reporting, current affairs coverage, and storytelling that aims to represent diverse voices without cultural or geographic bias.

This role is suited to a seasoned newsroom professional who can help shape the day’s editorial direction, keep the newslog up to date, and coordinate coverage across teams and regions.

What You’ll Do

• Monitor international developments continuously by drawing on all available information sources.
• Work with the Executive Producer to shape the Al Jazeera English news agenda for the day.
• Commission stories and allocate newsroom tasks to teams across the world and to the wider news desk.
• Edit and refine news scripts for packages, while providing feedback to reporters and correspondents when needed.
• Keep reporters and correspondents informed about story angles, updates, and changing developments.
• Coordinate with the Executive Producer and Doha output team for live coverage and rolling news situations.
• Prepare presenters for interviews and live two-way segments.
• Step into the field as a producer or News Editor when required.

What We’re Looking For

• At least 10 years of experience in a similar editorial role.
• Strong background managing a large news desk operation.
• Field news production experience is considered an advantage.
• Solid understanding of editorial standards, journalism practices, and the workflow of a large international news organisation.
