Job description
Role overview
NORfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for current adult nursing students who are on track to finish their degree in Summer 2026 and are ready to begin their career in oncology and haematology nursing. The opportunity sits across two settings: the Oncology Mulbarton Ward and the Weybourne Unit.
Applicants should be completing their adult nursing degree this summer and be able to start either before receiving their NMC PIN or as a registered nurse if the PIN is issued after June 2026. Newly qualified MSc and BSc nurses will be supported through a structured preceptorship programme backed by experienced clinical education teams.
Contract options
This position is available in two different forms: a 23-month fixed-term post in the Oncology Mulbarton Ward, and a permanent post in the Weybourne Unit. Candidates should clearly state their preference in the personal statement.
About Weybourne Unit
The Weybourne Day Unit delivers nurse-led oncology and haematology care. Its specialist chemotherapy nurses provide outpatient chemotherapy treatments, with support from oncology and haematology consultants and doctors who are also specially trained in chemotherapy.
About Mulbarton Ward
Mulbarton Ward is a 34-bed inpatient ward caring for people with cancer. The ward supports patients receiving chemotherapy, stem cell transplants and iodine therapy, and also cares for people managing side effects from cancer and its treatment. End-of-life care and palliative care are also part of the ward’s service.
Key role purpose
You will work as part of the ward and department team within a multidisciplinary setting, helping maintain consistently high standards of patient care under the guidance of the Ward or Department Sister/Charge Nurse. As a newly qualified nurse, you will take responsibility for a group of patients, deliver bedside care, and work alongside the management team in a supportive environment. Teaching and coaching will be available throughout your development.
Development and support
Successful candidates will be fully welcomed into the team and encouraged to keep building their clinical knowledge and practical skills. The trust offers a strong learning environment and support from a clinical education team to help you transition into registered practice.
Working at NNUH
The trust offers a range of staff benefits and support services, including on-site childcare, cafes and shops, opportunities to act as Freedom to Speak Up guardians, flexible working options, and support from workplace health and wellbeing teams. Staff also benefit from the NHS pension scheme and annual leave entitlement.
The hospital is located just outside Norwich in a countryside setting near the River Yare and UEA Broad, with access to city, countryside and coastline living in Norfolk.
Values and expectations
All staff are expected to act as role models and reflect the trust’s PRIDE values in every part of their work: People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence. The organisation is committed to delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care.
