Job description
About the organisation
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust supports more than 3,000 births each year and has played an active role in major maternity service improvements, including work connected to the Department of Health, Better Births, and the Baby Friendly Initiative.
The Trust serves Warwickshire and surrounding areas, with hospitals in Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Royal Leamington Spa, and Shipston-on-Stour, alongside community services across the county. It is a growing organisation with a strong focus on quality improvement, joined-up care pathways, and high productivity. The Trust has also been rated Outstanding by the CQC.
Role overview
This is an opportunity for newly qualified midwives to join a supportive maternity team. The role suits someone who communicates well, shows enthusiasm, works independently, and is committed to delivering a consistently high standard of care. Flexibility is important, as the post requires working across maternity settings and rotating between day and night duty.
The position is designed to help you consolidate the knowledge and practical skills gained during midwifery training, build further competence, and progress toward Band 6 Midwife level.
Responsibilities
- Work across all areas of Maternity Services to strengthen the link between theory and practice gained during training.
- Rotate between day and night shifts as part of the service requirement.
- Provide safe, effective, and compassionate midwifery care at all times.
- Develop additional competencies needed to deliver holistic care to women.
- Progress professionally toward a Band 6 Midwife role.
Requirements
- Recently qualified midwife ready to begin practice within an NHS maternity setting.
- Strong communication skills and a positive, proactive approach.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to high-quality service delivery.
- Willingness to work flexibly across all maternity care settings.
- Ability to reflect and demonstrate the Trust’s values of safe, effective, and compassionate care.
- Availability to attend a two-stage interview process on the dates specified, with no alternative dates offered.
- If shortlisted, candidates must advise interviewers in advance if they need reasonable adjustments.
Recruitment process
The selection process has two stages. First, candidates will attend a face-to-face assessment on 3 July 2026. Those who progress will then be invited to a face-to-face, question-based interview on 7 July 2026. No alternate dates will be provided.
The vacancy may close ahead of schedule if a large number of applications is received.
Development and support
An established preceptorship programme is available to support professional growth, and a dedicated Workforce and Development Team will help you in your role.
Additional information
Applicants are expected to consider how they demonstrate the Trust’s values throughout the recruitment process: “Trusted to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.” These values apply to every role, whether patient-facing or not.
