Role Overview
The Network Monitoring & Support Associate will be responsible for overseeing network health, handling incidents, supporting infrastructure changes, and coordinating with internal and external teams to keep critical connectivity services running smoothly.
Core Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor WAN, LAN, Wi‑Fi, MPLS, VPN, SD‑WAN, and internet circuits through network monitoring platforms.
- Track the condition of routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and access points.
- Watch bandwidth usage, latency, packet loss, and overall link availability.
- Spot threshold violations early and trigger proactive alerts.
- Maintain round-the-clock oversight of essential infrastructure and business applications.
- Evaluate ISP performance and service uptime.
- Respond to network incidents within defined SLA timelines.
- Carry out first-level diagnosis and isolate connectivity or device issues.
- Work with L2/L3 teams, OEM partners, and ISPs to drive resolution.
- Handle high-priority issues and keep stakeholders informed in a timely manner.
- Manage escalations for major outages and service disruptions.
- Ensure tickets are logged correctly, categorized properly, and closed with complete notes.
- Support routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless equipment as needed.
- Assist with VPN access and remote connectivity for users.
- Perform port changes, VLAN updates, and IP-related administration.
- Help implement firewall rules and manage access permissions.
- Support DNS, DHCP, and network authentication services.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance windows and approved network changes.
- Investigate recurring incidents and perform root cause analysis.
- Work to maintain availability, resilience, and redundancy across the network.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and performance optimization tasks.
- Suggest improvements that strengthen stability and scalability.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly network health reports.
- Share outage summaries, RCA findings, and preventive action plans.
- Maintain network diagrams, SOPs, and configuration records.
- Track SLA adherence, incident patterns, and trends.
- Keep an inventory of network assets and licenses up to date.
- Review firewall logs and watch for suspicious network activity.
- Follow security policies, standards, and access controls.
- Support vulnerability remediation and patch coordination efforts.
- Work with cybersecurity teams during security-related incidents.
- Follow secure access practices and change management procedures.
- Coordinate with internal IT teams, vendors, ISPs, and customers.
- Provide regular status updates during major incidents.
- Support audits, transitions, and other business-critical activities.
- Take part in CAB meetings and operational review discussions.
Tools and Platforms
The role commonly uses tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, Zabbix, ManageEngine, Cisco Prime, Wireshark, ServiceNow, and SCCM or similar endpoint tools where relevant.
Skills Needed
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, VPNs, MPLS, SD‑WAN, firewall and wireless technologies, troubleshooting, incident and change management, monitoring tools, and cross-functional coordination.
