Position Summary
The National Human Resources Generalist will support the national and state HR teams managing daily administrative functions including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, minor employee relations, and policy enforcement. This is a full-time exempt role reporting to the Director of Human Resources, operating remotely with occasional required travel (approximately 10%). The position is projected to continue at least through November 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage recruitment efforts by working closely with state leaders to identify staffing needs, assist in candidate sourcing and interviewing, and proactively build talent pools using various online tools.
- Administer job postings, facilitate interviews, extend job offers, and coordinate background checks.
- Lead orientation and onboarding processes for new hires, ensuring accurate entry of employee data into the HRIS system.
- Address general employment inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, escalating more complex issues as appropriate.
- Maintain and audit comprehensive human resources records and files within the company HRIS platform.
- Support payroll operations including responding to employee questions, correcting processing errors, and reviewing timesheets weekly.
- Perform a variety of HR administrative duties such as organizing special events like open enrollment, staff meetings, and recognition programs.
- Manage the HR shared communication channels including postal mail and employment verification requests.
- Provide technical support for recruitment, onboarding, and other HR processes as needed.
- Serve as primary contact for minor employee relations matters at the state level.
- Collaborate broadly with other departments including organizing/field operations, data, finance, legal, and operations teams.
- Promote open dialogue and feedback to foster an inclusive and supportive workplace culture.
- Assume additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience in HR recruiting and onboarding.
- Familiarity with employment law basics including Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, ACA, and Workers Compensation.
- Experience using applicant tracking and HRIS systems.
- Proficiency with G-Suite applications such as Google Docs and Sheets.
- Strong ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Previous payroll and benefits administration experience preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit, social welfare, or advocacy organizations is desirable.
- Union labor relations experience is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range between $63,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, complemented by a robust benefits package including:
- Health insurance with 95% employer contribution and 5% employee premium.

- A monthly reimbursement of $150 for cell phone and internet expenses.

Work Schedule and Environment
- Standard work hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
- May require work beyond normal hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and campaign blackout dates where time off is limited.
- This role is primarily remote, based out of Washington, DC headquarters, with potential occasional travel to office locations or state sites.
