About the Role and Company
Steel & Tube Holdings Ltd, a leading publicly listed New Zealand firm, operates an extensive national network of branches and distribution centres that support key projects in sectors such as infrastructure, construction, engineering, energy, manufacturing, viticulture, and rural industries. Based in East Tamaki, Auckland, this permanent full-time position offers an opportunity to lead and optimise last-mile freight operations with an emphasis on financial outcomes, safety standards, compliance, and exceptional customer care.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement freight network strategies that prioritise commercial efficiency and outcomes.
- Oversee the commercial truck fleet, ensuring regular maintenance, regulatory compliance, and effective supplier management.
- Manage cost analysis, monitor performance deviations, and identify opportunities to enhance profit margins.
- Drive the nationwide growth of internal freight services and advise on the addition of new operational locations.
- Support branch operations with daily driver coordination, safety enforcement, and service excellence.
- Produce detailed reporting and insights leveraging telematics data and analytical dashboards.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Possession of a tertiary qualification relevant to logistics or operations.
- Minimum of five years' experience in freight and logistics, demonstrating strong leadership and analytical capabilities.
- Proven experience in fleet management with strategic planning expertise.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement with the ability to challenge existing processes confidently.
- Holding a Class 4 or 5 Truck licence is essential; experience operating Hiab equipment is advantageous.
