Job description
Job Overview
This role entails conducting internal audits on mortgage loans, specifically focusing on FHA and VA loans, and communicating outcomes to loan production teams and management. The candidate will assess adherence to internal policies, procedures, and guidelines while identifying trends that might indicate fraud or misrepresentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review a selected sample of loans monthly to verify accuracy, policy compliance, and bank standards adherence.
- Perform both pre-funding and post-funding Quality Control (QC) reviews, including analyzing underwriting guidelines relevant to each loan, re-verifying file contents, ordering and assessing field review appraisals, reporting defects, and updating QC systems accordingly.
- Apply judgment in the escalation process when necessary.
- Carry out special audits upon request from Audit, Mortgage Management, or regulatory bodies.
- Identify warning signs or red flags and conduct further due diligence where needed.
- Comply with applicable company and regulatory risk and operational controls.
- Maintain internal control standards, promptly addressing internal and external audit findings as well as regulatory concerns.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA LAPP/SAR certifications is mandatory; candidates without these certifications will not be considered.
- Demonstrated recent experience underwriting FHA and VA mortgage loans.
- Associate’s degree with at least 4 years of mortgage or underwriting experience, or alternatively, a mix of 6 years combined higher education and/or work experience including 4 years in mortgage underwriting.
- Proficient knowledge of agency guidelines and ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with proven customer service capabilities.
- Experience in both retail and third-party mortgage originations.
- Familiarity with Allregs tools and Microsoft Office suite including Excel and Word.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across all management levels.
Compensation and Location
The annual salary ranges from $54,100 to $90,100 based on experience, skills, and location within the United States. This position is remote but is associated with the Clanton, Alabama location.
