Overview

The Mortgage Claims Specialist focusing on FHA is responsible for managing the filing of FHA Part B claims along with various non-conveyance claims such as CWCOT (Claims without Conveyance of Title), SFLS (Single Family Loan Sale) claims, and multiple Loss Mitigation claims including Pre-Foreclosure Sale (PFS), Partial Claims, Special Forbearance (SFB) incentives, Loan Modification incentives, and HAMP claims. This role requires timely follow-up on claim payments, submission of title packages to HUD, and consistent monitoring to ensure approvals or extensions are attained within investor and insurer deadlines to reduce any potential losses.

Key Duties

  • Oversee attorney firms to confirm timely submission of title packages or request HUD extension within required timelines.
  • Submit all Part B expense claims adhering to insurer/investor deadlines.
  • Process all non-conveyance claims including CWCOT, SFLS, and various loss mitigation claims promptly.
  • Perform regular follow-ups on outstanding claim payments on daily or weekly basis.
  • Address exceptions related to suspended claim funds and find resolutions.
  • Monitor daily reports and queues to track claims progress.
  • Keep management informed about trends or issues such as FHA claim curtailments and loss mitigation denials.
  • Plan work schedules effectively to optimize efficiency and reduce costs through process improvements.
  • Adhere to instructions and deadlines from management, and proactively renegotiate deadlines if unable to meet them.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.

Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Foundational knowledge and experience with FHA default guidelines and requirements.

  • Competent in using general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet software.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to handle high volumes effectively while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Capability to nurture relationships with internal teams and external clients or vendors.

Educational & Experience Requirements

A Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university is preferred. Alternatively, four to six years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Communication and Reasoning

  • Able to read, analyze and interpret business publications, technical materials, and government regulations.
  • Skilled in preparing reports, business correspondence, and procedure documentation.
  • Effective presentation and question response abilities in group settings.
  • Competent in calculating figures like discounts, interests, commissions, and percentages.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills to manage diverse situations with limited standardization.

Physical and Work Environment
