Medizinisch-Technische Assistenz (m/w/d) in Diabetesforschung

Role overview

Helmholtz Munich is looking for a full-time medical technical assistant to join the Institute for Diabetes Research in Munich as soon as possible. The position is based on-site and includes 39 hours per week. The institute focuses on the causes and prevention of type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes, with research centered on the biological mechanisms behind disease development and the interaction between environment, genes, and the immune system. A key goal is to identify early diagnostic markers and contribute to preventive and curative therapies for diabetes through epidemiological and clinical studies.

Key responsibilities

• Process biological sample materials from different diabetes studies according to study-specific laboratory standards and SOPs.
• Register and handle samples using laboratory information and management systems.
• Isolate mononuclear cells from peripheral blood.
• Carry out antibody-based test methods such as ELISA and LIPS.
• Work with dried blood spot cards used for genetic screening of newborns.
• Take part in regular team meetings to review workflows, plan new studies, and discuss measurement results.
• Enter study-related data accurately.
• Support the care, upkeep, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Candidate profile

• Completed vocational training as a Medical Technical Assistant (MTA/MTA-L), Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA), or a comparable laboratory-based qualification.
• Strong interest in biomedical research and working with clinical samples.
• Careful, organized, and dependable working style.
• Enjoys working in a team and collaborating with scientists and study staff.
• Very good written and spoken German and English skills.

Preferred experience

• Initial hands-on experience with immunological methods, for example ELISA, or with cell culture and laboratory work.
• Experience using laboratory information and management systems (LIMS).
