Job description
Overview
This is a permanent Medical Writer position within a growing medical communications editorial team. The role is remote, with hybrid working also available, and the salary can reach up to £45,000. The expected start date is as soon as possible.
The successful applicant will join a lively, collaborative scientific team with room to tailor the position around individual strengths. The work spans a broad mix of medical communications deliverables, such as congress materials, advisory board content, symposia support, training resources, websites, and digital applications. Responsibilities
- Deliver expert medical writing support across client accounts, producing work of a consistently high standard for different therapy areas, audiences, and communication formats.
- Check scientific and medical documents for tone, structure, content quality, and factual accuracy, while also offering practical editorial feedback.
- Serve as the technical lead on selected client assignments.
- Use medical communications expertise to help shape strategic communication plans across multiple accounts.
- Ensure every assigned project is completed to a strong editorial and scientific standard, on schedule and within the approved budget.
- Build productive working relationships with clients and external key opinion leaders.
- Oversee personal workload and support junior writers working on projects, while tracking budgets and identifying resourcing or process issues early.
- Stay informed about relevant industry codes, legal or regulatory updates, and external developments that could affect current accounts.
- Track project spend against agreed budgets and alert client services promptly if project requirements change.
- Help prepare account forecasts alongside client services leads.
- Research, write, and review new business proposals and pitch materials, contributing from early strategic ideas through to final delivery.
- Look for and help develop potential new business opportunities within current accounts.
Requirements
- A science degree is required, ideally in a life science discipline; a PhD or MSc would be an advantage.
- Strong scientific understanding and knowledge.
- Proven ability to produce clear, accurate, high-quality written work.
- Good presentation capability.
- Willingness and ability to attend international events.
- Self-driven, motivated, and proactive approach.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Good awareness of industry guidelines and best practice, with the ability to apply them appropriately.
- At least 2 years of experience in a medical communications agency.
