Role Overview

The Medical Transcriptionist specializing in histology is responsible for accurately producing pathology and autopsy reports guided by pathologists. This role requires transcription of histopathology and cytology reports from dictated audio with precise medical terminology, proper formatting, and adherence to documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate and type pathology and autopsy documentation with high accuracy.
  • Transcribe histopathology and cytology dictated recordings ensuring medical correctness and formatting compliance.
  • Review and proofread reports for grammatical accuracy, spelling, and completeness.
  • Input tissue demographics, specimen specifics, and relevant billing information into the billing system.
  • Confirm patient and specimen data for reliable documentation and reporting.
  • Facilitate daily routing of completed reports to clients.
  • Handle telephone inquiries related to reports, providing assistance and addressing issues efficiently.
  • Coordinate with pathologists to clarify unclear dictations and fix inconsistencies.
  • Maintain well-organized and retrievable permanent records.
  • Use electronic health record systems, laboratory information systems, and related software for document management.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, medical documentation, and regulatory standards for reports.
  • Contribute to quality assurance efforts by identifying errors and suggesting workflow enhancements.
  • Execute additional projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
