Role Overview

This exciting opportunity is aimed at a physiotherapist or sports therapist who possesses strong clinical, organizational, and leadership skills to enhance medical services within a national talent development programme. The Medical Lead will guide and elevate medical provision across the England Women’s Talent Pathway, supporting young elite players and staff across various locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the planning, coordination, and execution of physiotherapy and medical services during National Talent Events and associated programmes assisting female players aged 13-16 progressing towards national teams.
  • Offer clinical leadership and specialized support to players, therapists, and staff, maintaining consistent protocols in assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and female athlete healthcare.
  • Supervise injury and illness tracking, clinical documentation, and reporting systems, utilizing this data to refine medical strategies, mitigate risks, ensure welfare, and foster athlete development.
  • Establish strong collaborative partnerships with clubs, national teams, academics, and internal departments to facilitate player transitions, data sharing, research, and teamwork.
  • Recruit, onboard, and mentor physiotherapy staff within the pathway, overseeing workforce planning, supervision, professional growth, and succession strategies.
  • Manage medical equipment across pathway events to guarantee proper maintenance, servicing, and availability compliant with programme needs.
  • Ensure all physiotherapy practices, qualifications, policies, safeguarding protocols, emergency plans, and incident documentation adhere to professional and organizational governance standards.
  • Collaborate closely with coaching, physical performance, safeguarding, technical, and support teams to promote a comprehensive approach to player health, wellness, and performance.
  • Coordinate closely with the Technical Team on implementing the Women’s Technical Strategy.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and undertake additional tasks in alignment with the organization’s evolving priorities.
  • Adhere strictly to all company policies, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Complete required DBS checks as part of safeguarding obligations in accordance with job role activities and legislations.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree-qualified in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy with relevant professional indemnity and governing body registration (e.g., CSP, HCPC).
  • Holds ATMMiF or equivalent pitch-side emergency qualification.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of sports physiotherapy, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols within football or elite sporting environments.
  • Experienced in safeguarding, clinical governance, emergency action planning, and player welfare in youth sport and pathway settings.
  • Proven history of providing medical or physiotherapy support in football, elite sports, or talent pathways.
  • Experienced coordinating medical services for events, fixtures, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to build trustful relationships with players, families, clubs, coaches, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in supervising and developing physiotherapy staff and multi-disciplinary colleagues.
  • Competent with injury surveillance, medical record systems, and data reporting platforms.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and risk management abilities in medical service contexts.
  • Skilled at analyzing and communicating medical information to facilitate decision-making and player care.

Additional Information

  • This position is part-time (0.8 FTE) on a fixed-term contract until March 2029.
  • Significant national travel will be necessary.
  • Interviews will occur at the National Football Centre, St. George’s Park on 22 July 2026.
