Job Overview
The Medical Epidemiologist will lend expert epidemiological and human-subjects research review to DGHT's global HIV and tuberculosis science activities, ensuring strict adherence to methodological standards and regulatory compliance within the PEPFAR research portfolio. Responsibilities include reviewing research protocols, manuscripts, and abstracts for epidemiologic validity, ensuring CDC policies are met for data management and transparency, and coordinating scientific clearances for DGHT and CDC's PEPFAR scientific projects.
Key Duties
- Assess study protocols for clarity in objectives, design, sample size, data plans, and compliance with human subjects protections.
- Review drafts of manuscripts and abstracts to verify objectives, methodology, statistical validity, and data presentation accuracy.
- Ensure all human subjects research complies with ethical and legal standards.
- Conduct internal consistency checks of reported research findings.
- Prepare monthly progress and final summary reports.
Required Qualifications
- At least 4 years of relevant epidemiologic review or support experience.
- Expertise in public health/epidemiology related to HIV and tuberculosis science design and dissemination.
- Familiarity with protocol and manuscript development and scientific review processes.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with effective teamwork abilities.
- Capacity to balance multiple projects and apply critical thinking to solve problems.
- Attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality, error-free deliverables.
- Eligible for National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) and fingerprint clearance for CDC system access.
- Experience collaborating with CDC and understanding of public health best practices.
- U.S. citizenship required.
Work Schedule & Conditions
This is a full-time role requiring a 40-hour work week, excluding federal holidays and weekends. Teleworking is permitted. The position's continuation depends on contract award and is subject to federal compliance requirements.
