Job description
Job Overview
This role involves performing maintenance, repairs, and servicing on various mechanical machinery and equipment in a power generation setting to ensure optimal operation and minimize downtime. The position covers maintenance activities on both simple and combined cycle power generation blocks as well as Balance of Plant (BOP) systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform repair and maintenance work efficiently on a wide array of mechanical equipment and systems within a power plant environment.
- Carry out preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance with minimal supervision, including responding to on-call duties as required to quickly restore mechanical systems.
- Support Technician Engineers or independently handle assigned tasks by applying proper methods and procedures while selecting appropriate tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Adhere strictly to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and plant operating protocols to reduce workplace accidents and inquiries.
- Monitor recurring equipment breakdowns, propose solutions, and implement actions to prevent future issues.
- Supervise contract workforce performing maintenance repairs according to established plans.
- Manage exposure to challenging workplace conditions such as high pressure steam, electrical hazards, high noise, fumes, chemicals, heat, humidity, dust, heights, and various liquids, taking measures to minimize safety risks.
- Follow verbal or written instructions from supervisors diligently.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a Craft/Trade certificate or equivalent qualification is mandatory.
- For Diploma holders, at least 5 years of experience in a similar role within a thermal power plant.
- For Craft/Trade certificate holders, minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient with mechanical maintenance tools and practices.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with PC usage are essential.
- Knowledgeable about Gas Turbines (GE Frame 9E/9FA), Steam Turbines, Waste Heat Boilers, Thermal Desalination Plants, and various BOP equipment such as Compressors, Pumps, Cooling Towers, and Reverse Osmosis Plants.
- Good command of English language skills including speaking, reading, and writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with assertiveness and the ability to work effectively within a team, including shift work.
- Self-motivated, dedicated, and able to thrive in multi-cultural work environments.
