Role Overview
This site-based mechanical engineering position sits within a construction environment and reports to the Construction Manager or Lead Engineer. The role covers key areas such as safety, construction, quality, and commercial support, with responsibility for a defined section of the project.
Key Duties
- Support mechanical contracting activities across safety, construction, quality, and commercial matters.
- Prepare piping and equipment construction work packs.
- Review and approve piping test packs for pre-test, pressure test, and post-test stages.
- Track field welds and maintain weld histories for inclusion in piping test packs.
- Coordinate site activities between the mechanical team and other disciplines.
- Take responsibility for engineering matters within a designated construction area.
- Address engineering questions and technical issues directly in the field.
- Work alongside the MSL piping supervisor to help drive progress in the assigned area.
- Provide weekly progress updates for the specific work zone.
- Compile weekly variation updates from the area supervisor and pass them to the MSL cost engineer.
- Understand the full scope of the MSL contract to identify possible variation work on site.
- Confirm that equipment is installed correctly within the assigned area.
- Use Navisworks 3D models to provide technical support to the piping supervisor.
- Make sure all required materials, fabricated pipe spools, and supports are available on site so the schedule can be maintained.
- Work with the MSL QA lead to ensure piping systems in the area are handed over to the client on time.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of piping isometrics and P&IDs is essential.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in construction engineering or in a trade supervisor role.
- Ability to manage engineering tasks within a defined site area.
- Comfort working with Navisworks and coordinating technical information on site.
- Experience handling progress reporting, variations, and site coordination.
