Job description

Role overview

Join a worldwide professional services organisation focused on addressing major challenges in water, energy, and urban development. This opportunity sits within a growing New Zealand Pacific Water team that is helping clients prepare for increasingly frequent floods, droughts, and storms by building stronger, more resilient water infrastructure.

The company is looking for Mechanical Engineers who are passionate about water infrastructure and eager to contribute to meaningful outcomes for communities and the natural environment. The position is open to engineers at a range of career stages, from around five years of relevant experience through to highly experienced lead-level professionals who can contribute strategically to three waters design capability.

This opportunity is available across New Zealand, with consideration for multiple office locations including Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Hawke's Bay, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Tauranga, and Wellington.

What you'll do

  • Investigate complex water infrastructure issues and use strong analytical thinking to shape practical solutions for client needs.
  • Prepare detailed mechanical designs for water systems, with involvement in water, wastewater, stormwater treatment plants, and pump stations.
  • Apply knowledge of New Zealand codes and standards to help maintain compliance and quality across projects.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, both verbally and in writing, to support successful project delivery.
  • Use or guide the use of modelling and CAD tools such as Inventor and AutoCAD to develop accurate mechanical water system designs.
  • Approach technical problems with pragmatic, lateral thinking to create effective project outcomes.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation approaches that support safe and sustainable delivery.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to strong project outcomes.
  • Build productive client relationships and align engineering solutions with client goals.

Experience and capabilities

Applicants should bring strong hydraulics knowledge, sound mechanical engineering capability, and experience working on water-related infrastructure projects. The role also calls for someone who can work well across disciplines, manage technical challenges, and contribute ideas in a collaborative setting.

Experience with modelling software, technical design coordination, and client-facing communication will be valuable. A candidate who can think creatively while staying practical and compliant will be well suited to this role.

How to apply

Submit a CV and a cover letter that outlines your experience and your vision for the position.

Applications are being accepted as expressions of interest. No agency resumes are requested at this stage.

Working model

This role follows a hybrid working approach, with in-office collaboration expected three days per week and flexibility for the remaining days.
