Role overview
This contract opportunity is for a Mechanical Engineer focused on static equipment and piping, based onsite in Doha, Qatar. The role supports mechanical engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, with strong emphasis on operations, maintenance, asset integrity, and HSE alignment.
Qualification and background
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with specialization in static equipment and piping is required.
- Chartered Engineer registration, or an equivalent professional status, is preferred.
- You should bring at least 10 years of post-graduate experience in a relevant field, including 10 years within the oil and gas sector working for a reputable international operating company.
- Hands-on experience in operations and maintenance is mandatory.
- Working knowledge of international standards, Shell DEPs and/or QP standards relevant to the discipline is needed, along with familiarity with mechanical static/piping design tools such as stress analysis software.
- Experience with an international consultancy or an EPIC contractor, especially on pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and handover activities, will be considered an added advantage.
- A strong grounding in the discipline, solid technical capability, good communication skills, presentation skills, and fluency in English are expected.
Key duties
- Provide high-quality mechanical engineering input and specialist support for static equipment and piping throughout all project phases.
- Check and validate technical and design documentation against approved standards and ensure compliance with operations, maintenance, asset integrity, and HSE requirements.
- Review scope definitions thoroughly, drawing on practical exposure to rotating and non-rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, equipment reliability and availability, APMS, piping and mechanical modifications, utilities, and related systems.
- Coordinate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Asset Integrity, Process, Operational Safety, Fire Engineering, and ICT functions so project deliverables stay aligned and well controlled.
- Identify engineering-related hazards and contribute to document reviews, design safety workshops, HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, QRA, FERA, and similar reviews as applicable.
- Take part in technical discussions, commissioning support, SAT, plant pre-startup safety audits, performance testing, punch list closure, and operational readiness activities.
- Work alongside project execution, engineering, operations, and maintenance teams during FEED and EPIC phases to ensure operations, maintenance, asset integrity, and HSE needs are fully incorporated.
