Job description

Role overview

This long-term contract opportunity is with a major oil and gas operator in Qatar. The position is focused on machinery control engineering support for complex assets and projects, with work covering design reviews, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and warranty issue resolution.

Work location and schedule

The role is based in Qatar onshore, split between Ras Laffan and Doha headquarters. The working pattern is 5 days per week, with daily hours ranging from 8 to 10. The assignment is expected to begin as soon as possible, typically within a one-month notice period.

Key accountabilities

  • Deliver a broad range of machinery control engineering support in areas such as GE systems, CCC, DCS, and DLN tuning to help meet division strategy and objectives.
  • Contribute to design reviews, studies, commissioning, start-up, failure analysis, advanced troubleshooting, punch list closure, warranty claim resolution, and Management of Change activities.
  • Assess, validate, and help develop advanced machinery control schemes for equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, and variable frequency drives for motors, with strong attention to reliability, availability, and cyber security.
  • Create and refine test procedures such as surge tests, DLN tuning, machine test runs, and performance tuning for turbo machinery systems and DCS controls.
  • Assist with Factory Acceptance Tests and evaluate machine performance test outcomes, including comparison of theoretical calculations, OEM performance maps, and site performance data.
  • Prepare work plans and schedules that support timely delivery of tasks and alignment with section and division KPIs.
  • Provide specialist technical input to other disciplines and functions to support business goals, especially where process and machine interaction is important.
  • Oversee contractor, consultant, and service provider activity within the area of responsibility.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers in the use of company integrity and reliability systems.
  • Track and resolve critical issues through an issue register, including new technology risks that may affect project reliability, availability, and cyber security.
  • Prepare discipline handover documentation for the operating company after start-up.
  • Support high-risk commissioning work for complex, large-scale projects through rigorous system surveillance, control system optimization, and advisory support to operations and maintenance teams.

Qualifications and experience

A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or in a science discipline with an engineering specialization, is required. Candidates should have 8 years of experience in their area of specialization within the oil and gas industry. Strong expertise in machinery control systems and schemes, including GE, CCC, DCS, and DLN tuning, is essential.
