About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Meat Production Clerk to join our Meat Department in Windsor, Ontario. This full-time position requires the individual to support the daily operations of the department with an emphasis on exceptional customer service and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service, promptly responding to inquiries and addressing customer needs.
  • Gain and sustain comprehensive knowledge of products and services offered in the Meat Department.
  • Inform customers about meat attributes and provide guidance on cooking methods.
  • Assist in the preparation of various meat products following company recipes, including ground meat, sausage, ready-to-cook items, cured and marinated meats, and seasoned patties.
  • Accurately package, weigh, label, and price items for both full service and self-service displays, utilizing Cry-O-Vac (ROP) packaging when necessary.
  • Maintain the presentation and cleanliness of display cases, ensuring product quality and accurate signage.
  • Support the receiving, inspection, and breakdown of deliveries from vendors.
  • Organize and rotate stock systematically according to proper storage protocols.
  • Operate relevant equipment such as price scales, meat grinders, and cutting tools safely and efficiently.
  • Answer telephone calls and pages courteously and promptly.
  • Manage workstation and departmental supplies including replenishment and rotation.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, and machinery regularly to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Adhere strictly to company procedures regarding weights and measures, health regulations, sanitation, and safety.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations immediately to supervisors.
  • Perform assigned opening, mid, and closing duties diligently.
  • Attend all scheduled shifts, trainings, and departmental meetings.
  • Carry out additional tasks as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be at least 18 years old with prior meat department experience.
  • Basic understanding of meat, poultry, and seafood products, including preparation and cooking knowledge.
  • Proficient in handling knives and other cutting tools with a clear focus on safety.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingualism is preferred.
  • Capable of working both as part of a team and independently.
  • Basic math skills required.

Education and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate from an accredited organization (e.g., ServSafe or ANSI compliant).

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Frequent contact with allergens such as flour, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
  • Regularly lift and carry weights ranging from 10 to 75 pounds.
  • Work involves constant standing and walking, with motions including bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Exposure to a wide range of temperatures encountered in freezers, coolers, ovens, grills, and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Tasks performed in both wet and dry environments.
  • Periodic use of ladders or step stools may be required.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, gases, and fumes.
  • Use of tools and equipment such as knives, protective gear, forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts, and balers.
  • Intermittent noise exposure from machinery and equipment.
  • Wearing non-slip, water and oil-resistant closed-toe footwear is mandatory.
