Overview

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Health Services, the Marketing & Multimedia Specialist – Public Health (MMS-PH) aims to boost the presence of the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District in the community, foster public confidence, and educate residents on healthy living practices. This role supports media communications, manages multimedia content including photography and video production, and maintains the Public Health website and social media channels in collaboration with the City's Marketing & Communications Department.

Key Duties

  • Assist the Public Health senior leadership with marketing and public relations activities, including special initiatives.
  • Prepare materials and media for Health Advisory Meetings as required.
  • Create and distribute internal and external communications such as emails, reports, and presentations.
  • Develop educational marketing content for social media platforms and help manage the public health website.
  • Monitor daily activity and engage on multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and grant managers to design marketing assets like posters, flyers, and videos aligned with program needs and current events.
  • Partner closely with the City of Abilene's Communication & Marketing team to ensure adherence to branding standards.
  • Travel locally to capture photos and videos at events and attend meetings, trainings, and outreach activities.
  • Perform additional assigned duties related to the role.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency with various software including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva, Sprout Social, and other web and social media tools.
  • Experience with cameras and editing (photo and video) software.
  • Familiarity with AP style for publication writing and fundamental marketing principles.
  • Understanding of health information management and basic administrative practices.
  • Ability to design graphics and layouts, proofread with high attention to detail, and create short-form video content.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, prioritization abilities, and capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Competence in promoting public health to strengthen community trust.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to act as lead contact for public health event committees.
  • Capability to maintain confidentiality while performing responsible administrative tasks.
  • Skills in office productivity software (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365) and web applications.
  • Ability to develop cooperative working relationships both internally and externally.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preferably two or more years of experience related to video work, editing software, social media management, or television programming.
  • Associate’s degree plus two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Media Communications, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to secure one within 90 days of hire (military waivers accepted).

Additional Requirements

  • Mandatory HIPAA compliance training within 60 days of employment.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some mornings, evenings, and weekends; typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Work environment may involve outdoor settings exposed to extreme heat or cold.
  • Travel to various work locations is expected.
  • Physical demands include medium strength activities such as lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying 25 pounds, with moderate amounts of standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, balancing, and extensive vision, hearing, and talking.
