Job description

Role overview

American Express places Card Members at the heart of its business. In this position, you will help shape customer engagement across the New Zealand portfolio by combining data, customer insight, creativity, and experimentation. Your work will support stronger loyalty, better retention, and deeper engagement throughout the customer lifecycle.

This opportunity involves working closely with local, regional, and global stakeholders to deliver relevant, high-impact marketing for New Zealand Card Members. The role suits someone who enjoys pairing strategic thinking with practical execution and who is motivated by measurable commercial outcomes.

Customer growth and engagement

  • Contribute to the planning and rollout of customer engagement programs that increase spend, transaction frequency, and long-term loyalty.
  • Spot opportunities across the lifecycle to lift engagement, reduce inactivity, and limit customer churn.
  • Oversee the New Zealand Dining Collection programme, including process coordination, dining event support, and partner administration.
  • Create premium customer experiences that build affinity with the brand and strengthen relationships.
  • Communicate Card benefits, merchant acceptance, and value propositions in ways that encourage greater usage and retention.

Campaign strategy and delivery

  • Lead customer campaign execution end to end across CRM, digital, and partner channels.
  • Take campaigns from insight gathering and briefing through launch, optimization, and post-campaign review.
  • Work with creative agencies and internal teams to produce relevant, customer-first communications.
  • Improve channel approaches to expand reach, boost engagement, and strengthen campaign performance, with a particular focus on personalization and owned channels.
  • Ensure all marketing activity is timely, high quality, and aligned with legal, compliance, and brand standards.

Data, personalisation, and insights

  • Use customer and transaction data to uncover growth opportunities, refine segmentation, and enhance results.
  • Build personalized and targeted customer experiences that feel relevant and timely.
  • Review campaign outcomes, customer behavior, and engagement patterns to produce practical insights.
  • Encourage continuous testing and learning to improve both customer outcomes and commercial performance.

Product support and customer communications

  • Collaborate with Product teams on launches, product enhancements, and communications about value propositions.
  • Develop and maintain content for customer touchpoints across digital platforms and servicing channels.
  • Deliver service and regulatory communications that support business goals while preserving a positive customer experience.

Stakeholder collaboration

  • Partner with teams across local, regional, and global markets to deliver strong customer marketing initiatives.
  • Work closely with Product, Analytics, Legal, Compliance, Servicing, and external agencies.
  • Bring customer and marketing perspective into broader business priorities and strategic projects.

How success will be measured

  • Higher Card Member spend and more frequent transactions.
  • Improved engagement across key customer segments.
  • Lower inactivity and attrition.
  • Strong return on campaign investment and delivery against commercial goals.
  • Greater use of Card benefits and offers.
  • Consistently strong campaigns and customer experiences that support loyalty and advocacy.

Experience and qualifications

You should have hands-on experience in customer marketing, CRM, lifecycle marketing, loyalty, or a closely related area. The role also calls for a track record of managing campaigns from planning through execution and improvement, along with strong commercial understanding of how marketing supports growth, engagement, and retention.

You will need to be comfortable using customer insights and data to guide decisions, and you should bring solid project management capability with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and stakeholders. Experience in financial services, loyalty, travel, subscription, or membership-based businesses is preferred, as is familiarity with CRM systems, marketing automation, segmentation, or experimentation methods.

Who you are

  • Customer-led and motivated by meaningful experiences.
  • Analytical, inquisitive, and guided by data.
  • Able to move between strategic planning and hands-on delivery.
  • Self-directed, accountable, and focused on outcomes.
  • Collaborative and effective at influencing varied stakeholder groups.
