Job description

About Sweetleaves

Sweetleaves is a design-led cannabis retail, hemp, and cannabis CPG business headquartered in Minneapolis. The brand focuses on helping people experience cannabis as part of daily life with a sense of balance, clarity, and enjoyment, while keeping the tone approachable and free of stigma. Its philosophy is reflected across its stores, menus, and community communication.

The company operates across three brand areas: Sweetleaves Retail in North Loop and Minnetonka, Sweetleaves Edibles for hemp and cannabis products, and its flower brand. This position supports all three.

Role overview

The Marketing Coordinator serves as the hands-on execution lead for how Sweetleaves appears online, in stores, and across digital channels. This is a highly creative and production-focused role suited to someone who is organized, resourceful, and comfortable managing several projects at once. The team is specifically looking for someone already using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to help create and execute campaigns.

You will work closely with the founders and retail team to expand audience reach, strengthen engagement, and keep messaging consistent across owned, earned, and shared channels. If you enjoy making content, campaigns, graphics, signage, and email assets that have a direct impact, this role will be a strong fit.

Key responsibilities

You will plan and coordinate content, manage channel activity, support email and SMS programs, maintain brand assets, and help connect marketing with retail operations and outside partners.

Content planning and channel management

  • Create marketing assets for website, email, SMS, social media, digital campaigns, and in-store use.
  • Develop and update a monthly content calendar tied to promotions, product launches, Garden Club milestones, and seasonal campaigns.
  • Publish content across paid, owned, earned, and shared channels in coordination with the Head of Marketing.
  • Write copy and captions that consistently reflect Sweetleaves’ brand voice.
  • Monitor community engagement across platforms by responding quickly and appropriately to reviews, comments, direct messages, and tags.
  • Build and maintain the social presence and content library for the CPG brand.
  • Plan, schedule, and create content that reflects the brand’s distinct identity.
  • Support product launches, promotions, and partnerships tied to the brand.

Email and SMS

  • Run email and SMS campaigns from start to finish, including topic development and production in the outreach platform.
  • Create and send weekly emails, including writing, design, and performance reporting.
  • Manage audience segmentation, lifecycle messaging, and consumer data collection through surveys and website tools.
  • Support loyalty program communication and visibility through social and in-store creative.

Design and asset management

  • Design graphics, templates, signage, and other branded materials.
  • Own the content library by organizing and maintaining photography, video, and design assets.
  • Keep menus aligned across digital and retail channels, including product titles, descriptions, photos, dietary details, terpenes, and minor cannabinoids.

Retail and vendor partnerships

  • Serve as the connection between Marketing and Retail by guiding store teams on in-store needs, signage, and priorities.
  • Work with vendors to source in-store materials, including print, photography, and production support.
  • Create marketing materials for house brands.
  • Collaborate with brand partners on new product launches and align store execution with the content plan.

Local presence

  • Research local outreach opportunities across partner sectors such as food and beverage, lodging, wellness, and community events.
  • Maintain brand visibility and manage engagement on Google My Business, Yelp, Leafly, and Weedmaps, including responses to all reviews.

What you bring

We are looking for someone with 1 to 3 years of experience in marketing, content, social media, or a related field. Experience in agency, retail, CPG, or hospitality settings is considered an advantage. Strong writing ability, visual judgment, and the confidence to work independently across multiple tasks are essential.

Hands-on design skills in Canva or a similar tool are important, along with a working understanding of photo and video basics. Experience with email and SMS platforms is preferred, and familiarity with Alpine IQ or a similar system is a plus. The role also requires comfort with digital and in-store marketing, strong collaboration skills, and a genuine interest in cannabis with an understanding of compliant marketing practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in digital marketing or a similar role.
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing channels such as social media, email, paid advertising, and SEO.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Experience with marketing tools including Google Analytics, email platforms like Alpine IQ, and social media management tools.
  • Ability to use Excel and other data analysis tools such as Power BI.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational habits.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Additional requirements

  • Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to satisfy any background-check requirements related to Minnesota cannabis employment.

What we offer

  • Competitive annual salary in the range of $55,000 to $65,000.
  • Health benefits.
  • Paid time off.
  • Employee discount.
