Position Overview

The Managing Director of Sales is tasked with leading and mentoring a team of Directors of Sales across designated regions or business areas. This leadership role focuses on driving sales performance through effective team management, aligning strategic directives with district and market activities, enhancing dealer relationships, and supporting profit and loss (P&L) objectives across multiple districts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate regional strategy into actionable district priorities and market plans for Directors of Sales.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Vice President of Sales to develop market strategies informed by field insights and business dynamics.
  • Identify strategic market opportunities, risks, and resource needs within allocated regions.
  • Ensure Directors of Sales create and implement market plans that comply with company objectives and financial goals.
  • Utilize data and market intelligence to recommend strategy adjustments and resource allocation.
  • Provide timely feedback to leadership on execution successes and areas requiring improvement.
  • Drive business objectives by guiding Directors of Sales to meet sales goals and enhance market performance.
  • Analyze market trends and operational reports to address performance gaps.
  • Enforce financial discipline in managing expenses and resource utilization linked to sales activities.
  • Coach and develop directors to strengthen leadership skills and ensure accountability.
  • Continuously evaluate organizational health by assessing the right talent, staffing, design, expectations, and training needs.
  • Establish structured business rhythms, including reviews and coaching sessions, to monitor and improve results.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration and lead change initiatives supporting sales effectiveness.
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of market conditions and represent the company professionally to internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience in a related field.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in sales leadership, business development, or financial services.
  • Proven ability to achieve business and financial goals through effective leadership of sales teams.
  • Strong coaching, communication, decision-making, and change management skills.
  • Competency in analyzing sales data, financial metrics, and market trends to guide strategic decisions.
  • Availability and willingness to travel extensively (50% to 75%).

Preferred Background

  • Previous experience as a successful Director of Sales or in comparable sales leadership roles.
  • Experience managing multiple sales teams or markets.
  • Industry familiarity with automotive finance, dealer relations, or related financial services.
  • History of supporting organizational change and sales transformations.
  • Strong partnerships with departments such as Sales Enablement, Marketing, and Finance.
  • Track record of improving underperforming teams or markets.
  • Experience in developing leadership talent and managing business financials.

  • Base salary of $200,000 annually plus commission potential.
