Optimus SBR is hiring a Manager for its Government & Public Sector team within the Industries and Government Practice in Toronto. In this position, you will work with municipal, provincial, and wider public sector organizations to shape and implement practical, lasting improvements.

The role blends client delivery, leadership, and people development. You will break down complex issues, lead project teams, and work closely with senior stakeholders to produce solutions that can be executed in real environments.

What you’ll do

• Lead consulting work for government and broader public sector clients in areas such as strategy, service delivery improvement, regulatory modernization, program modernization, operating model design, business process improvement, and project or program management.
• Run several client projects or workstreams at the same time while protecting quality, budget, and deadlines, and addressing risks, issues, and competing demands early.
• Prepare polished client materials such as strategic assessments, business cases, briefing notes, governance materials, implementation plans, and executive-level presentations.
• Turn unclear or complex situations into organized analysis, practical recommendations, and action-oriented plans that support public sector outcomes.
• Manage relationships with senior stakeholders across municipal, provincial, and broader public sector organizations.
• Plan and facilitate stakeholder sessions, executive workshops, interviews, and decision forums that advance transformation efforts.
• Support growth efforts through opportunity spotting, proposal writing, client relationship development, and public sector thought leadership.
• Guide clients on organizational change, process redesign, program delivery, and service improvement in multi-stakeholder settings.
• Provide daily direction, coaching, and mentoring to project teams, and support employee development through Optimus SBR’s Career Development Program.
• Contribute positively to the firm’s culture and internal community.

What you need

• 5 to 7 years of management consulting experience, including exposure to public sector or government clients; or 7 to 10 years in government transformation, internal strategy, or public sector leadership roles.
• Background delivering work for municipal, provincial, or broader public sector organizations.
• Experience leading teams and working with senior stakeholders in complex, fast-moving delivery settings.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: public sector transformation, strategic planning, service modernization, PMO or project delivery, organizational design, process improvement, stakeholder engagement, or change management.
• Strong ability to manage several priorities at once with solid organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
• Comfort with technology, data, digital transformation, AI, and related trends.
• Good understanding of public sector operating environments, governance structures, and multi-stakeholder decision-making.
• Ability to convert strategic goals into practical implementation plans.
• Strong facilitation and executive communication skills, including preparation of materials for senior leadership.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• An entrepreneurial, collaborative, and values-based approach to consulting.
• Advanced Microsoft Office capability, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to produce client-ready documents, executive decks, data visuals, and quantitative analysis.
• Bilingual English/French is an asset but not mandatory.
• A related university degree in business, health care, or public policy is required.
• Postgraduate study such as an MBA, MPA, or MPP, or professional/designation credentials such as CPA, P.Eng., PMP, Lean, or PROSCI are preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is CAD 110,000 to CAD 135,000. Compensation is reviewed based on skills, qualifications, and experience, and may be negotiated. Strong performers may be considered above the top end of the range.
