Job description
About the Role
This opportunity sits within KPMG Australia’s Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRA) practice, supporting clients in government, healthcare and infrastructure. The team helps organisations handle demanding regulatory, operational and public accountability expectations by strengthening governance, improving risk and control environments, and building confidence for stakeholders.
The practice draws on deep experience in internal audit, risk and controls advisory, risk-based assurance, contract and vendor management, major project assurance, and performance monitoring. A strong emphasis is placed on helping clients turn strategic goals into practical outcomes in heavily regulated, public-facing settings.
What You’ll Do
As a Manager in the GRA team, you will lead assurance and risk engagements across government agencies, healthcare organisations and major infrastructure programs.
- Direct internal audit and risk management assignments for public sector, healthcare and infrastructure clients.
- Handle several active projects at once while providing advanced advice on risk, controls and assurance.
- Lead discussions with senior stakeholders such as executives, boards, audit and risk committees, and public sector governance groups.
- Design and assess risk-based assurance plans, internal audit plans and ongoing monitoring frameworks.
- Own delivery from start to finish, ensuring strong outcomes across governance, risk and internal audit work.
- Coach and develop teams, contributing people leadership across consulting, internal audit and assurance workstreams.
- Support practice growth through business development, proposals, thought leadership and sector-focused client solutions.
- Work with KPMG’s broader Government, Health and Infrastructure groups to deliver joined-up, multidisciplinary solutions.
- Help clients implement lasting, workable improvements in risk and governance rather than only producing reports.
What We’re Looking For
You should bring strong internal audit and risk capability, along with the confidence to work in complex, highly regulated environments.
- A trusted adviser who can turn technical risk and assurance matters into clear, practical guidance for senior leaders.
- Comfort working in government, healthcare or infrastructure settings where accountability, regulation and public value matter.
- A collaborative leader who enjoys developing people and helping future leaders grow.
- Commercially minded, with experience spotting and shaping new assurance and internal audit opportunities.
- Comfortable contributing to proposals, audit plans, case studies and sector-specific assurance offerings.
Experience and Qualifications
The preferred background includes internal audit, risk management and/or assurance experience gained within or alongside government, healthcare or infrastructure organisations.
- Experience in internal audit, risk management, assurance or risk advisory, preferably in public sector, health or infrastructure environments.
- Experience delivering or supervising risk-based internal audit programs, controls reviews, governance reviews or assurance work.
- Good understanding of governance structures, risk management, internal controls and assurance methods.
- Proven ability to manage delivery across a portfolio of clients or large, complex organisations.
- Strong stakeholder management, including work with senior executives, boards, audit committees and risk committees.
- A collaborative approach, with experience across both short-term and long-term assurance and transformation initiatives.
- A tertiary qualification is required.
- Professional credentials such as CIA, CA or CPA are highly valued.
- Applications are also welcome from related backgrounds such as engineering, project management, healthcare operations, infrastructure delivery, data analytics or technology, provided the experience has been applied to risk, assurance or internal audit work.
