Job description

Role overview

KPMG Australia’s Mid-Market & Private – Advisory group helps clients create measurable value, from defining strategy to delivering execution. Within this group, the Innovation Strategy & Transformation practice focuses on business change, program delivery, and operational transformation that produces practical outcomes for clients.

Your opportunity

In the Associate Director position, you will steer strategic consulting work, develop strong relationships with senior client leaders, and help expand the practice. You will work with clients across Local Government, Health and Human Services, Defence Industry, and Mid-Market & Private sectors, shaping solutions that generate lasting impact.

This role is designed for someone who can lead significant engagements, influence strategic choices, and support the ongoing growth of an advisory business.

What you'll do

  • Take ownership of consulting engagements from initial scoping through delivery and close-out.
  • Work with clients to resolve strategic, operational, and organisational issues.
  • Guide engagement teams and help ensure strong client outcomes and healthy project margins.
  • Contribute to business growth through opportunity spotting, proposal development, client relationship building, and market-facing activity.
  • Develop and sustain trusted relationships with senior executives across multiple sectors.
  • Create practical solutions using structured problem-solving, data-led insights, and sector knowledge.
  • Play a leading role in major bids, pursuits, and initiatives that grow the practice.
  • Coach and develop managers and junior team members while supporting a high-performance culture.
  • Work with other service lines to provide joined-up client solutions.
  • Help shape the direction and growth of the Innovation Strategy & Transformation practice.

What makes you successful

  • You are comfortable working in complex and uncertain environments and enjoy guiding clients through change.
  • You have a commercial mindset and can spot opportunities to add client value and deepen relationships.
  • You can connect with senior leaders through clear communication and strategic judgment.
  • You build effective teams through collaboration, coaching, and inclusive leadership.

Experience and qualifications

The role suits candidates with substantial management consulting or advisory experience. You should bring a record of leading several client engagements, handling senior stakeholder relationships, and contributing to business development.

You will need the ability to apply structured analysis to ambiguous problems, manage competing priorities, and communicate clearly. Practical experience in operating model design, organisational change, transformation delivery, business process improvement, business case development, and cost reduction is important. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills are also expected.

Applicants must be willing to travel as needed and hold current Australian work rights.

A bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Engineering, or a related field is required.

Interstate candidates are welcome to apply, and relocation support is available for suitable applicants moving to Perth.
