About MS Canada and the Role

MS Canada is dedicated to a vision of eradicating multiple sclerosis (MS), a neurological disease affecting the central nervous system. Canada has one of the highest MS rates globally. The organization supports and connects the MS community—including those affected by the disease, caregivers, researchers, donors, volunteers, and health professionals—providing programs, information, research advancements, and community support throughout the MS journey.

We are currently seeking a Manager, Communications to join us on a 16-month contract, working 35 hours weekly from anywhere in Canada. This role is key to advancing our mission by shaping and managing our communication strategies that impact our public image and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

This position provides expert advice in developing and implementing top-tier corporate communications, directly influencing MS Canada's reputation through various initiatives and projects. The role includes managing media relations, responding to inquiries, and collaborating with internal teams to craft clear, compelling messages that align with the organization's objectives.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing communications, public relations, and media relations plans that bolster brand identity and reputation.
  • Proficient in managing media relations including handling outreach, inquiries, and organizing related events.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and project management capabilities, effectively prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude, handling complex situations diplomatically.
  • Collaborative mindset to build and maintain trustworthy relationships with colleagues, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills with experience guiding a team through people management or project leadership, offering direction and constructive feedback.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends and able to travel intermittently across Canada.
