Overview

The Salvation Army has been providing support to communities across Canada and Bermuda for over 130 years, assisting more than two million individuals annually with essentials like food, clothing, shelter, and additional social services. Position Purpose

This role involves assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of various properties including the Crossroads Residential Services, Beaver Creek Camp, and the Saskatoon Temple. Duties cover a broad scope of skilled mechanical preventive maintenance, building repairs, upkeep of outdoor environments, cleaning, and sanitation, contributing to a secure and pleasant environment for clients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned repair, maintenance, and preventive work orders efficiently and thoroughly within the incumbent's skill capacity.
  • Regularly inspect facilities' condition in coordination with the supervisor.
  • Perform and log readings of heating systems per schedule alongside the supervisor.
  • Address minor troubleshooting and repairs following organizational protocols and standards.
  • Maintain and service tools and equipment, including small engine repairs and proper storage.
  • Manage inventory and organization of supplies used onsite as directed.
  • Perform groundskeeping tasks ensuring outdoor areas are safe and clean year-round, including snow and ice removal for pedestrian and vehicle areas.
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment safely as assigned.
  • Document daily maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial activities accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and contractors in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Participate in mandatory and role-specific training, and attend meetings when requested.
  • Assist in purchase order preparations with necessary documentation as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current Clearances: Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Intervention Check.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License and clean driving abstract.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level A or C certification.
  • WHMIS training completion.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of one year in building operations including heating plants, HVAC, and general repairs (electrical, plumbing).
  • At least six months’ experience in custodial duties.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Outlook, word processing, and spreadsheet management.

Skills and Abilities

  • Good understanding and respect for the mission, values, and culture of The Salvation Army.
  • Capable of performing maintenance tasks in plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, and carpentry.
  • Competent in operating various equipment and vehicles relevant to grounds and property maintenance.
  • Physical capability to carry out manual labor including lifting up to 30 lbs, extensive walking, bending, and standing for long periods.
  • Comfortable working at heights up to 35 feet and in confined spaces.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours, including early mornings and adverse weather conditions.

Working Environment

  • Exposure to noisy environments, shop tools, and equipment.
  • Work may involve being outdoors in extreme weather conditions and working at heights or confined spaces.
  • Potential contact with toxic substances, electrical risks, bodily fluids, and difficult individuals.

Compensation and Hours

This is a full-time role with a 40-hour workweek. The salary range starts at $16.60 per hour, progressing to a maximum of $24.90 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and market factors.
