Overview

An established international educational institution is searching for a skilled and proactive Maintenance & Health and Safety Officer to join their team at their Leopardstown, Dublin 18 campus. This permanent, full-time position involves overseeing health and safety compliance alongside managing day-to-day maintenance tasks to ensure a secure and well-maintained environment for all students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organisation's health and safety management system aligned with Irish laws and internal policies.
  • Develop, periodically review, and update risk assessments and relevant safety documentation.
  • Serve as Fire Safety Officer, organizing fire drills, inspections, and necessary statutory checks.
  • Manage contractor compliance including inductions, reviewing risk assessments (RAMS), and enforcing permit-to-work procedures.
  • Perform routine health and safety inspections and initiate corrective measures when needed.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, near misses, and other safety-related incidents as required.
  • Maintain statutory inspection schedules and ensure all compliance records are accurately kept.
  • Execute routine maintenance, minor repair work, and general upkeep of campus buildings, fixtures, and grounds.
  • Coordinate activities with external contractors to ensure maintenance works are promptly completed.
  • Keep detailed maintenance records and oversee the timely resolution of maintenance requests.
  • Support various operational activities, including events and other facilities needs as they arise.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possession of a recognised health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH National General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in health and safety compliance, carrying out risk assessments, and performing workplace inspections.
  • Practical knowledge and management experience regarding fire safety responsibilities and statutory compliance programs.
  • Strong familiarity with Irish health and safety legislation, notably the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
  • Hands-on experience with building maintenance, facilities management, and performing minor repairs.
  • Competence in managing contractors and enforcing safe working practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Terms and Working Conditions

  • Work schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Contract Type: Permanent, full-time role based onsite in Leopardstown, Dublin 18.
