The role
Vitaco is looking for a trade-qualified Maintenance Engineer to join the Engineering team on afternoon shift. This is a practical, hands-on position focused on maintaining safe, reliable and efficient manufacturing assets while supporting production output, product quality and ongoing improvement.
You will be responsible for fast response to equipment breakdowns, carrying out preventative maintenance, and helping keep machinery dependable in a busy FMCG environment. The position is currently based in Penrose, while supporting operations across Vitaco’s Auckland manufacturing network, including sites in East Tamaki and Penrose.
Key responsibilities
- Handle mechanical and electrical breakdowns, identify the root cause and get equipment back in service quickly to reduce downtime.
- Carry out scheduled preventative work and corrective maintenance in line with production needs.
- Spot and implement improvement ideas that lift reliability and efficiency of assets.
- Work with production staff, engineers and contractors to plan and complete maintenance tasks effectively.
- Keep maintenance documentation accurate and ensure all work meets GMP, safety and quality requirements.
Working pattern and pay
This is a full-time role of 42 hours per week across Vitaco’s manufacturing sites in East Tamaki and Penrose. The shift is afternoon-based, from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, and includes a rotating Saturday requirement of one Saturday every four weeks.
The salary range is NZD 90,000 to NZD 110,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a shift allowance.
About you
You are a dependable, practical engineer who puts safety first and enjoys working in a high-paced manufacturing setting. You take ownership of equipment reliability and are comfortable balancing reactive work with planned maintenance.
What you will bring
- A trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in FMCG or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Strong fault-finding ability across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Hands-on experience with breakdown response and preventative maintenance.
- Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics and industrial machinery.
- A solution-focused mindset and a genuine drive for continuous improvement.
Additional experience valued
Experience in GMP or other regulated environments will be an advantage. Familiarity with CMMS systems is also highly regarded.
