Role Overview

The Maintenance Engineer will be solely responsible for executing scheduled, preventive, and reactive maintenance on textile machinery, including sewing machines, slitting, cutting equipment, and general site repairs. The position requires effective problem-solving skills for continuous improvement across Alkegen’s facilities in Stoke and Bury.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00
  • Friday: 08:00 – 13:00

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance duties for both Stoke and Bury sites, with base at Stoke and regular travel to Bury’s slitting and warehouse facilities.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks independently to meet company goals and deadlines.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and log incidents for future improvements.
  • Participate in maintaining the site asset condition register to help highlight investment needs.
  • Procure and stock necessary parts and supplies for maintenance work.
  • Maintain and repair equipment as required.
  • Coordinate with suppliers ensuring adherence to company security policies.
  • Keep the workshop and stores orderly and clean.
  • Conduct weekly fire alarm testing.
  • Oversee contractor compliance regarding site security, safety policies, and permit to work systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar maintenance role within manufacturing or textile industries.
  • Formal education or equivalent practical experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics systems.
  • Experience working with textile processes such as sewing, cutting, and slitting.
  • Ability to handle site maintenance tasks, including lighting, plumbing, and general building upkeep.
