Job description

Role overview

MetLife’s Global Customer Service and Operations organization focuses on customer care that is grounded in trust, empathy, and continuous improvement. In this position, you will help support customers through important life events by handling disability claims with care, consistency, and operational discipline. The role calls for sound judgment, careful analysis, and teamwork to reach fair outcomes while delivering a supportive customer experience across the United States.

What you will do

  • Assess and manage moderately complex long-term disability claims and issue decisions that are timely, balanced, and accurate.
  • Prepare precise claim notes, written communications, and decision letters that align with policy language, regulatory rules, and the current claim status.
  • Review medical, occupational, financial, and policy details to complete a thorough and compliant claim evaluation.
  • Own an assigned portfolio of pending and active claims with limited supervision while meeting service expectations, controlling inventory, and staying on target with performance measures.
  • Build action plans and evaluate return-to-work possibilities by identifying gaps, resolving inconsistencies, and deciding when more information or escalation is necessary.
  • Work closely with claimants, representatives, physicians, attorneys, brokers, family members, and internal colleagues to collect information and support appropriate claim decisions.

Required background

  • High school diploma plus at least 1 year of experience handling disability insurance claims, with the ability to assess information and make sound decisions promptly.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and the judgment needed to review facts, evaluate risk, make independent decisions, and choose the right next step in complex situations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, along with a customer-focused and collaborative approach when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good problem-solving ability, conceptual thinking, risk awareness, organization, and time-management skills to handle a demanding workload.

Preferred profile

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of disability-related experience is preferred.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $41,600 to $62,500. The position may also qualify for annual short-term incentive pay and stock-based long-term incentives, subject to plan terms.
