Long Haul Truck Driver

Overview

This role involves operating heavy trucks for long-distance transportation of goods, primarily requiring onsite work in Brampton, Ontario. Proficiency in English and a secondary school graduation certificate are necessary. Experience in the field is advantageous but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan or adjust travel routes using GPS and other navigation tools to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.
• Load and unload cargo carefully ensuring safety and security, including the application of tarps when necessary.
• Secure required special permits and documentation for international cargo transport.
• Drive and manage straight and articulated trucks to move goods and materials safely.
• Regularly inspect vehicle components such as tires, brakes, lights, and cold storage systems to maintain operational integrity.
• Perform brake adjustments and conduct emergency roadside maintenance as needed.
• Carry out thorough vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips, documenting findings accurately.
• Communicate effectively with central dispatch and keep detailed records of cargo, driving hours, distance, and fuel usage.
• Handle and transport dangerous goods compliantly and safely.

Qualifications and Credentials

• Must have an AZ class driver's license.
• Knowledge of transportation documentation including accident/incident reports, bills of lading, driver logbooks, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.

Experience and Skills

• Proficient operation of GPS and other navigation devices.
• Experience or familiarity with long-haul trucking and tractor-trailer equipment.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver's license and clean criminal record check required.
• Strong attention to detail and physical capability to handle demanding tasks, including extended periods of sitting.
• Possession of a cellular phone is necessary for communication.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, reliability, flexibility, and the ability to work well in team settings.
