Role Summary

The Trade Compliance Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and compliance of global trade and customs operations. Responsibilities include managing customs documentation and certifications, overseeing trade compliance, coordinating with customs authorities and internal teams, and minimizing risks related to trade regulations. This position ensures smooth coordination of import/export operations and compliance adherence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver all trade documentation accurately and punctually.
  • Manage certificates and regulated documents relevant to trade compliance.
  • Take full ownership of customs and trade compliance processes.
  • Supervise customs information requests and follow up accordingly.
  • Lead efforts to strengthen and unify trade compliance practices, implementing regional policies consistently.
  • Develop regional guidelines for import/export compliance, tariff classification, country of origin, and export controls.
  • Identify and utilize opportunities for preferential trade programs and reduce duties.
  • Support audits and regulatory investigations relating to customs and trade.
  • Stay informed on global regulatory changes and translate them into practical company guidelines.
  • Create, audit, review, and correct commercial invoices ensuring compliance with import/export laws.
  • Collaborate with Importers of Record, customs brokers, carriers, and third parties to address discrepancies and ensure shipment compliance.
  • Detect and escalate compliance challenges, documentation issues, or process delays.
  • Adhere to internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls diligently.
  • Work cross-functionally to guarantee data integrity and alignment with trade compliance standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in trade compliance, import/export operations, logistics, or related area.
  • Proven experience preparing, reviewing, or creating shipping documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of customs regulations and global trade compliance.
  • Experience interacting with customs brokers, freight forwarders, or courier services.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in document review and data validation.
  • Solid knowledge of international trade compliance principles and documentation standards.
  • Ability to interpret trade regulations and internal compliance guidelines effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in stakeholder engagement.
  • Analytical thinker with robust problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience with ERP or trade management software.
  • Ability to follow defined procedures while identifying areas for process improvement.
  • Strong sense of personal accountability and ability to work independently within structured frameworks.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a positive and proactive mindset.
  • Full fluency in English is required.
