Job description
Role overview
Yara is hiring a Logistics & Materials Handling Technician for its Ammonium Nitrate operations in Karratha, Western Australia. This position is not a standard warehouse role; it is based in an industrial chemical production setting where heavy mobile equipment, bulk material movement, and safety-critical procedures are part of everyday work. Candidates with backgrounds in mining, oil and gas, petrochemicals, or other heavy industrial environments are likely to adapt well.
What you will do
- Manage the handling and loading of Ammonium Nitrate (AN) and Ammonium Nitrate Solution (ANSol) in bagged, bulk, and containerised forms.
- Operate ITCs, forklifts, conveyors, and similar bulk-handling equipment.
- Perform start-up and shutdown activities for the logistics area.
- Make sure plant areas and equipment are ready for operational use.
- Coordinate with external logistics partners to safely and efficiently dispatch trucks.
- Escalate equipment, process, and product-quality concerns to logistics and production teams.
- Take part in daily and weekly pre-start and planning discussions.
- Work within existing procedures and help improve SOPs.
- Assist with incident or issue investigations and support corrective actions.
- Contribute to Yara Productivity System (YPS) initiatives.
- When suitably experienced, train and oversee other team members on tasks.
- Complete SAP entries, purchase requests, material movement permits, and consignment paperwork.
- Support monthly KPI monitoring for the Production team.
What you need
- Hands-on experience in an industrial setting such as mining, oil & gas, petrochemicals, manufacturing, or a similar environment.
- Experience handling chemicals or bulk materials, or operating mobile plant.
- Confidence working safely in a Major Hazard Facility.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or permanent residency.
- Existing tickets for forklift, integrated tool carrier or similar loader, EWP, work at heights, confined space entry, and gas testing.
- Applicants with strong industrial experience who are missing one or two tickets are still encouraged to apply.
- Desirable qualifications and experience include Cert III in Logistics, Business, Process Plant, ESI or RII, dogging or rigging, MHF or dangerous goods exposure, SAP experience, and familiarity with Lean or continuous improvement methods.
Benefits and support
- $46,000 per year Karratha housing assistance for the full duration of employment.
- 6 weeks of paid annual leave.
- 2D 2N 4 off roster.
- $35,000 per year regional location allowance.

- $3,000 per year electricity and water utility reimbursement.
- Flights for the employee and dependents twice yearly after the initial service period.
- Relocation support.
- 6 months of paid primary parental leave.
- A culturally diverse workplace with a DEI Ambassador program.
- Salary packaging and an active social club.
