About the Role
We seek a caring, dependable live-in caregiver to provide personalized support to an elderly individual in Annapolis, Maryland. This role includes companionship, personal assistance, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, and light household duties. Experience caring for dementia patients is preferred as the client requires supervision and encouragement to maintain safety and daily routines.
Responsibilities
- Provide conversational companionship and emotional support.
- Offer reminders and gentle redirection when necessary.
- Assist with personal hygiene tasks including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Support and supervise during showers, offering cues as needed.
- Remind the client to use the restroom regularly and change protective garments as needed.
- Prepare meals tailored to the client’s preferences and encourage regular eating and hydration.
- Provide medication reminders following the care plan.
- Accompany the client on walks, errands, shopping, meals, and local events.
- Offer transportation using the caregiver’s own vehicle when required.
- Perform light housekeeping including dishes, laundry, vacuuming, bed linen changes, trash disposal, and handling mail and packages.
- Ensure the client’s phone is charged and operational.
- Monitor client safety continuously and report any condition changes promptly to the agency.
- Adhere strictly to care plan instructions and maintain accurate shift documentation.
Qualifications
- Previous caregiving, home care, or dementia care experience preferred.
- Demonstrates patience, compassion, dependability, and comfort providing frequent reminders.
- Clear, respectful communication skills with clients, family, and care teams.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and up-to-date auto insurance.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Authorized to work legally in the U.S.
- Ability to pass background checks and comply with onboarding requirements.
- Professional attire preferred over scrubs during work hours.
Physical Requirements
- Capability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout shifts.
- Assist with client mobility and personal care as needed.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
- Maintain heightened awareness of safety and fall risks.
